ARKADELPHIA, Ark.—The Ouachita Wind Ensemble will perform on Thursday, March 11, at 7:30 p.m. in Ouachita Baptist University’s Jones Performing Arts Center. The ensemble will perform under the direction of Dr. Craig Hamilton, Ouachita’s Lena Goodwin Trimble Professor of Music.
The 39-member ensemble is audition-based and open to all wind and percussion performers at OBU. Since the group’s inception in the late 1990s, it has performed throughout the United States and Europe and has recorded six CDs. “I’m always excited to showcase the ensemble’s incredible talent,” Hamilton said.

ARKADELPHIA- Ouachita Baptist never left a doubt in double header victories over Lincoln (Mo.) University, as the Lady Tigers invoked the run-rule in five innings and allowed just one hit in both games. The double header sweep also stretched the current win streak to eight games for Ouachita (8-1), the best start since joining the Gulf South Conference in 2001.
Ouachita (8-1) won Game 1, 9-0, behind a shutout victory from junior Kristen Rigsbee on the mound, as Rigsbee also provided a walk-off two-run homerun to seal the win. In Game 2, Ouachita defeated Lincoln, 8-0, as junior Sara Hanson went five innings in allowing just one hit, as senior Haley Chambers provided a three-run homerun in the first inning.

ARKADELPHIA- After scoring 10-plus runs in three of the past four matchups, Ouachita Baptist used a two-hit shutout and strong starting pitching performance from senior Will Gowdy to shut down North Alabama, 3-0, at Rab Rodgers Field in Arkadelphia on Friday.
Ouachita (5-4) stretched their current win streak to three games behind a six inning, one hit performance from Gowdy (3-0). The Lions didn’t record a base hit until two outs left in the fifth inning. Junior Nick Holtgrieve recorded his second save of the season, going three innings in relief of Gowdy.

ARKADELPHIA, Ark.—Continuing the tradition of honoring outstanding student-athletes, Ouachita Baptist University will induct its newest members into the university’s Athletic Hall of Fame on Friday, Feb. 26.
Ouachita’s 2010 Athletic Hall of Fame inductees include the 1964-65 men’s basketball team, OBU’s first team named to the Hall of Fame, as well as five individual athletes.

ARKADELPHIA, Ark.—Ouachita Baptist University’s Carl Goodson Honors Program recently announced the recipients of the 2010 Honors Scholarship Awards. Six honors students were granted the awards to pursue research in their respective fields of study.
The scholarships are a part of the Elrod Scholarship Endowment, which was created 25 years ago. These scholarships are not applied to a student’s tuition, but are used to help them in their research for an honors thesis.

ARKADELPHIA, Ark.—Two Ouachita Baptist University students, Elisabeth Hipp and Kyle Huey, were named finalists in the 2010 Trinity Presents Collegiate Performance Showcase, sponsored by Trinity United Methodist Church in Little Rock, Ark. They will perform as part of the Performance Showcase Recital on Sunday, March 14, at 6 p.m.
Students from 10 colleges and universities in Arkansas submitted preliminary auditions on DVD featuring two musical pieces in different styles. Only four finalists were chosen by the judging panel, and each finalist received $500. The winner of the showcase will receive an additional $1,000.

ARKADELPHIA, Ark.—Ouachita Baptist University’s Ben M. Elrod Center for Family and Community will host the annual Dating, Engagement and Marriage Week March 1-6 on Ouachita’s campus. The theme of building strong relationships will be incorporated into Ouachita’s weekly events through Noonday, chapel and Refuge. There will also be breakout sessions for students and off-campus events for married and engaged couples.
“This is a fun week,” said Judy Duvall, assistant director of the Elrod Center. “Our students are of course interested in romantic relationships, and we want to give them the tools they need to have strong relationships centered in Christ.”

ARKADELPHIA, Ark.—Ouachita Baptist University will host “KALEO: Arkansas ’10” on the university’s Arkadelphia campus Saturday, Feb. 27.
KALEO, a New Testament Greek word that means “to be called,” is a specialized conference designed to guide emerging leaders to discover, embrace and pursue God’s call to change the world. The Arkadelphia event is co-sponsored by Ouachita, the Arkansas Baptist State Convention, Williams Baptist College, the Southern Baptist North American Mission Board and International Mission Board and LifeWay Christian Resources.

ARKADELPHIA, Ark.—The Southwestern region of the American Choral Directors’ Association (ACDA) offers a Collegiate Honors Choir conference every other year. This year the conference will be held in Denver, Colo., from Feb. 24-27, and Ouachita Baptist University will send seven music education majors.
The ACDA is a group of choral directors that meets every two years. It is divided into regions, and during the years between formal meetings, each region holds an honors choir conference.
