OBU hosts 10-Minute Play Festival March 13

ARKADELPHIA, Ark.—Ouachita Baptist University will host the 8th annual 10-Minute Play Festival on Saturday, March 13, at 7:30 p.m. in Verser Theatre.

The 10-Minute Play Festival, also known as All Night Theatre, consists of five or six student-written and -directed 10-minute plays. “This festival has grown into one of our favorite events,” said Katie Willhite, a junior Christian studies and theatre major from Rowlett, Texas. “It provides opportunities for students from all over campus, not just theater and English majors, to take part in the theatrical craft.”

Xavier Lagunas to present sophomore musical theatre recital March 12

OBU to host 12th annual Shambarger Competition Feb. 23

Arkadelphia, Ark.—Ouachita Baptist University will hold its 12th annual Mary Shambarger Competition for Singers Feb. 23. The competition repertoire rotates annually among musical theatre, arias from opera and oratorio and art songs.

“This year’s repertoire will feature selections from the Broadway stage and other music theatre works,” said Dr. Jon Secrest, OBU professor of music. “This should prove to be a very popular contest among all our voice students, but especially with the musical theatre majors.”

OBU Department of Theatre Arts to present The Doctor in Spite of Himself

ARKADELPHIA, Ark.—Ouachita Baptist University’s Department of Theatre Arts will present the play The Doctor in Spite of Himself, by Molière Feb. 17-21. Performances will be held in Verser Theatre on Ouachita’s campus at 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 17; 7:30 p.m. on Thursday through Saturday, Feb. 18-20; and 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 21.

This neoclassical comedy is directed by Mary Handiboe, OBU associate professor of theatre arts. The students “have all brought a strong level of commitment and creativity to the work, even when the flu plagued our rehearsals,” Handiboe said. “It’s been amazing to watch the students fulfill the old adage of ‘the show must go on.’”

Ouachita to host annual One-Act Play Festival Dec. 10-11

Arkadelphia, Ark.—Ouachita Baptist University will host its annual One Act Play Festival Dec. 10 and 11 in Verser Theatre on Ouachita’s campus. Each night, students will perform five different student-directed one act plays. Each evening’s performances will begin at 7:30 p.m. and are open to the public and free of charge.

ARKADELPHIA—Ouachita Baptist University’s Opera Theatre will present Giacomo Puccini’s Gianni Schicchi at 7:30 p.m. on Nov. 19-21 and at 2:30 p.m. on Nov. 22 in the Jones Performing Arts Center on Ouachita’s campus.
