Tigers win shootout over Missouri S&T, 13-10, to close tournament play

SPRINGFIELD, Mo.- After 23 runs, 37 hits and eight pitchers later, it was Ouachita Baptist who came out on top against Missouri S&T in the offensive onslaught, 13-10, in the final round of the Effington Optical Invitational in Springfield, Mo. on Sunday.

Tigers defeat Drury in second round of Heffington Optical Invitational

SPRINGFIELD, Mo- Ouachita Baptist picked up a huge fifth inning offensively and never looked back in defeating Drury, 10-4, in the second round of the Heffington Optical Invitational at Meador Park in Springfield, Mo. on Saturday.

Ouachita (10-8) used a seven-run fifth inning coupled with a solid complete game outing from junior Sam McGill (2-2) to stop Drury (5-8) on their home field, after losing to St. Cloud State, 5-3, on Friday.

Tigers defeat Central Missouri to split double header series

After falling down 2-0, Ouachita exploded for four runs in the fourth inning to defeat No. 6 Central Missouri, 7-2, in a non-conference double header at Rab Rodgers Field on Tuesday.

Ouachita (7-5) defeated their second top-25 opponent of the season, after securing a season opening victory over then-No. 21 Angelo State, 4-3.

Tigers shutout North Alabama, as Gowdy moves to 3-0

ARKADELPHIA- After scoring 10-plus runs in three of the past four matchups, Ouachita Baptist used a two-hit shutout and strong starting pitching performance from senior Will Gowdy to shut down North Alabama, 3-0, at Rab Rodgers Field in Arkadelphia on Friday.

Ouachita (5-4) stretched their current win streak to three games behind a six inning, one hit performance from Gowdy (3-0). The Lions didn’t record a base hit until two outs left in the fifth inning. Junior Nick Holtgrieve recorded his second save of the season, going three innings in relief of Gowdy.

Green named GSC Baseball Player of the Week

ARKADELPHIA- Ouachita Baptist Sophomore Brock Green has been named Gulf South Conference Baseball Player of the Week, conference officials announced on Tuesday.

Green led the Tigers (2-4) to a victory over Kentucky Wesleyan, 19-6, on Saturday with a 3-for-5 performance at the plate, including 3 RBI and a double. On Sunday, while Ouachita dropped a 3-2 rain-shortened decision to Kentucky Wesleyan in seven innings, Green still provided sparks at the plate, going 2-for-3 with 2 RBI and a solo home run.

The Hot Springs native is a 2010 GSC Preseason All-GSC Baseball Team selection and was the 2009 GSC Freshman of the Year. Green is currently batting .350 on the season, including two doubles, 5 RBI, with a home run and is Ouachita’s first weekly honoree of the season.

Ouachita Baptist returns to Rab Rodgers Field on Wednesday to take on Evangel University in a doubleheader series beginning at 12 p.m.

Tigers drop rain-shorted game to Kentucky Wesleyan in seventh inning

ARKADELPHIA- A day after beating Kentucky Wesleyan 19-6, the Tigers held off the weather conditions as long as possible, before losing to the Panthers, 3-2, in a non-conference matchup at Rab Rodgers Field in Arkadelphia on Saturday.

Ouachita (2-4) had just received a home run shot from sophomore Brock Green to cut the deficit to 3-2, before both schools decided to cancel the game due to snow and wet field conditions.

Baseball begins season with strong team

The Tiger baseball team is looking to continue a tradition of winning in 2010. After a fourth-straight trip to the Gulf South Conference tournament and just missing a third-straight regional appearance in 2009, Head Coach Chris Moddelmog is confident in this year’s squad.

“We really like our chances this spring,” Moddelmog said. “We have a lot of new guys but we look for good things out of this club this year.”

Tigers picked to finish third in GSC West Division Baseball Preseason Coaches’ Poll; Gowdy and Green named to All-GSC preseason team

ARKADELPHIA- The Ouachita Baptist baseball program has been chosen to finish third in the West Division of the Gulf South Conference Preseason Coaches’ Poll, conference officials announced on Tuesday. Senior outfielder/pitcher Will Gowdy and sophomore first baseman Brock Green were both chosen to the 2010 Preseason All-GSC Baseball Team, as well.

Southern Arkansas was chosen as a unanimous decision to win the GSC West with 49 votes, followed by Delta State (43), Ouachita (33), Harding (32), Henderson State (24), Arkansas Tech (19), Arkansas-Monticello (17) and Christian Brothers (7). SAU debuts at No. 4 in the nation in the Collegiate Baseball Newspaper Preseason top 40 and was also chosen to finish as the GSC Tournament Champion among all GSC baseball programs.
