T he age-old reference to the importance of free-throw shooting came to life when sophomore A’Laeshia Adams hit a pair of free-throws with .4 seconds left in regulation, sending the game into overtime, as the Lady Tigers held on for the road victory over Southern Arkansas, 80-78, for their second Gulf South Conference victory of the season  in Magnolia on Jan. 23.

Ouachita (10-8, 2-3 GSC West) finished 30–of-39 on the free-throw line, while Southern Arkansas (6-11, 1-4 GSC West) was limited to just 9-of-14 on free-throw shooting in the GSC match up.

The Lady Tigers trailed 62-48 with 7:44 remaining, but Ouachita outscored Southern Arkansas 9-4 in the final 2:27 to send the game to overtime.

In the end, it came down to the discrepancy in free-throws made (30-9) and turnovers (24 for Southern Arkansas, compared to just seven by Ouachita).

Adams led Ouachita with 26 points on 7-of-19 shooting, including 12-of-13 on free-throw shooting. Sophomore forward Buelah Osueke added a season-high 19 points, including five rebounds and a season-high five steals.

Sophomore Domino Miller scored 12 points and recorded three assists, while junior Gabby Coleman added 10 points, five rebounds and three steals.

Ouachita shot 35 percent overall, including 21 percent on 3-pointers and 76 percent from the free-throw line, while the Lady Tigers also recorded 11 steals.

Southern Arkansas was led by a 32-point, 10-rebound effort from Kmaria Hobbs, while teammate Cha’Kia Lee added 15 points and 10 rebounds for the Lady Muleriders, who held a 51-32 edge in rebounding.

Southern Arkansas shot 47 percent overall, including 56 percent on 3-pointers and 64 percent from the free-throw line.

Ouachita returns home tonight to face Henderson State in the first Battle of the Ravine series meeting in 2010. The match up will tip-off at 6 p.m.
