Lady Tigers named top academic team in NCAA Division II softball

T he National Fastpitch Coaches Association announced on Sept. 28 that the Ouachita Baptist University softball team has been named the No. 1 team in the girls got game Top Ten All-Academic rankings for NCAA Division II. The Lady Tigers had a combined 3.663 GPA for the 2009 season.
Ouachita Baptist finished as the top academic team in not only just NCAA Division II schools, but among all NCAA four-year schools in the nation. Ouachita finished the 2009 season in fourth place in the Gulf South Conference West Division, finishing with a 24-30 overall record, including a 12-18 mark in GSC play under the direction of Head Coach Mike McGhee.
The National Fastpitch Coaches Association chose schools for the girls got game Top Ten All-Academic Teams based on GPAs submitted for the 2008-09 school year. Through this program, the NFCA honors high school and collegiate softball teams for their success in the classroom.
NJCAA Division I school Wallace State Community College/Hanceville led all colleges with a 3.733 grade-point average, while NCAA Division II’s Ouachita Baptist University topped all four-year schools with a 3.663. NCAA Division I institution Robert Morris had a 3.610, while Emerson College was best in NCAA Division III with a 3.531 and NAIA’s Bethel College led the way in that category with a 3.545.
