L ITTLE ROCK- Ouachita Baptist University Athletic Director David Sharp has announced that Ouachita’s first two football games of the 2010 season will be broadcast statewide on KABZ-FM, 103.7 The Buzz, in Little Rock.

“To say we’re excited about being on The Buzz would be an understatement,” Sharp said. “This will give our program statewide exposure as we begin what we expect to be a great season.”

Ouachita, which has posted back-to-back winning seasons, returns eight starters on defense and seven starters on offense from last year’s team.

The opening game on Thursday against Texas College will begin at 7 p.m. at Arkadelphia’s A.U. Williams Field. The Buzz will join the Ouachita Football Network broadcast immediately following the conclusion of Drivetime Sports at 7 p.m.

The second game of the season will be played Thursday, Sept. 9, when the Tigers travel to Omaha, Neb., to take on the University of Nebraska at Omaha. The Buzz will join the Ouachita broadcast in progress at 8 p.m. immediately following The Clint Conque Show.

“We realize that The Buzz has a commitment to University of Arkansas programming on Saturdays,” Sharp said. “But with our first two games on Thursday nights this year, we saw an opportunity for coverage for our program on the state’s top sports station. We appreciate program director Justin Acri and others at The Buzz for working with us to make this happen.”

All 10 Ouachita games can be heard on the six regular affiliates of the Ouachita Football Network. Those affiliates are:

  • KYXK-FM, 106.9, in Arkadelphia-Gurdon
  • KELD-FM, 106.5, in El Dorado-Hampton-Camden
  • KZHS-AM, 590, in Hot Springs
  • KVMA-AM, 630, in Magnolia
  • KNAS-FM, 105.5, in Nashville
  • KQOR-FM, 105.3, in Mena

Rex Nelson of Little Rock will return for his 29th season of play-by-play duties at Ouachita. Nelson is one of the longest-serving announcers in the country for a single school. He again will be joined in the booth by Dr. Jeff Root of Arkadelphia, who has provided analysis for more than a quarter of a century. Nelson is a senior vice president at The Communications Group in Little Rock.

Nelson and Root grew up within blocks of A.U. Williams Field. They have worked together on the football broadcasts since they were Ouachita students.

Sharp calls the Ouachita Football Network “the best in NCAA Division II. We take great pride in it. It’s just another example of us doing things in a first-class manner at Ouachita. Having the first two games on The Buzz takes us to an even higher level.”
