OBU Softball drops pair to Central Baptist

I t was a cold day for the Ouachita Baptist University softball team as the Lady Tigers dropped a pair of games Sunday to Central Baptist College, 9-0 and 5-3 at Bryant High School.

The Lady Mustangs (7-5) scored a run on the Lady Tigers (10-8) in the bottom of the first when Kayla Hawkins, who went 4-for-4 with two RBIs, a double and a homerun, lined up the right side and brought in Chelsey Hust.

Then in the bottom of the third inning, Hust brought in Hawkins to put the Lady Mustangs up 2-0.

Central Baptist added five runs in the fourth inning and two more off of a two-run homerun in the fifth to end the game.

Sarah Hanson started for the Lady Tigers and had three strikeouts, while allowing two runs on five hits. Alexis Johns closed for Ouachita having one strikeout.

Schylar Dake pitched for the Lady Mustangs having four strikeouts and allowing two hits.

In the second game, the Lady Tigers scored first when Randi Wilson, who went 3-for-3 with a double and an RBI and a run scored, hit one off the left-field fence to bring in Kelli Beth Bratton in the top of the second inning to give Ouachita a 1-0 advantage.

The Lady Mustangs answered in the bottom of the third by scoring five runs. Hailey King and Cassie Martin both hit two-run home runs in the inning.

Wilson got the team going by getting on base in the top of the sixth inning. The next batter, Jana Deen hit a two-run homerun to cut the Central Baptist lead to 5-3. But that was as close as they would get.

Kristen Rigsbee took the loss for the Lady Tigers, recording eight strikeouts and allowing five runs on six hits.

Claire Collom picked up the win for Central Baptist, allowing three runs on eight hits with three strikeouts.

The Lady Tigers return to action, 2:00 p.m., Wednesday March 4 at Sully Anderson Field against the University of Arkansas-Pine Bluff.
