M eredith Henry recorded 17 kills on Senior Night, but it wasn’t enough as the Ouachita Baptist University volleyball team dropped a hard-fought 3-2 decision Tuesday night to Southern Arkansas at the Sturgis Center in a key Gulf South Conference West Division match.
The Lady Muleriders (11-18 overall, 3-9 GSC West) dropped the first game, 25-20, but won the next two 27-25 and 25-18. Ouachita (10-24, 3-8) took the fourth, 25-23, to force a fifth set. Southern Arkansas raced out to an 11-6 lead and watched Ouachita fight off a pair of match points before eventually taking the match, 15-11.
Henry, the lone senior on the Ouachita squad, had 17 kills in 45 attempts and nine digs. Libby Merritt record 15 kills on 39 attempts. Lexie Hegi finished with 38 assists and 10 digs for a double-double. Raichel Settle paced the defense with 25 digs, while Lauren Stuart added 15.
Veronica Ogbeide led three Lady Muleriders in double-digit kills with 14. Danielle Sneed added 11 and Sarah Bell chipped in with 10. Michaela Scroggins finished with 39 assists. Mallory McKee led five Southern Arkansas players in double-digit digs with 26. Erica Malone and Sneed recorded 12 each and Kaci Matthews and Maggie Ross both had 10.
Ouachita Baptist, which was eliminated from postseason play with the loss, concludes the season 7 p.m., Friday, Nov. 7 at the Rhodes Field House in Searcy, Ark., to take on Harding in a Gulf South Conference West Division match.
