W ith only a few weeks to go until the regular season ends, Ouachita’s intramural football season is in full swing with 24 teams and a total of 350 students participating. Ten of the 24 teams are women’s teams, and the other fourteen are men’s teams. Almost everyone involved, be it a player, a coach, a referee or just a fan, seems to be enjoying themselves thouroughly.

“Our season is amazing,” said Jeff Garner, a junior Christian studies major from Team Rex Horne. “We have so much fun together playing a sport that we are all passionate about. We would count down days over the summer until intramural football would start. The games are competitive … and that makes the game so much more fun. … The best part of intramural football is that every team goes out there to win, and it guarantees a fun 50 minutes of everyone’s day: fan, coach or athlete.”

Some school sponsored teams use intramural sports as a means of relaxation.

“I know for the softball team, flag football and dodgeball are by far the most looked forward to events of the year,” said Emily Matthews, co-captian of the Superhero flag football which is made up of members from the women’s softball team. “It’s basically the only thing we talk about during our softball practices. And nothing gets us more pumped than these games. It’s nice to get out of softball practice which is usually intense and know that later you will get to have a blast with your team on the flag football fields where the only requirement and expectation is to have fun.”

Team Superhero is currently undefeated in the Women’s Upper Division, a division that is new this year in order to make the playing field more level.

Accounting for the Women’s Lower division, the Freshman Fifteen Team is in the lead with another undefeated record.

“Every game day is great,” said mass communications major Molly Magee, co-captain of the Freshman Fifteen, which is actually made up of 19 sophomores.

“We dress in our matching green shirts and run up and down the hall yelling ‘game day’ before all of the games and go out and stretch together.”

For the men’s divisions, the lower division is lead by That’s What She Said and Team Rex Horne is undefeated for the men’s upper division.
