Tiger senior goalkeeper Neal Ozmun was recently named the Gulf South Conference Defender of the Week by conference officials.

Ozmun wins his first career laurel and is just the second Tiger to win Defender of the Week honors after two magnificent efforts in net.

The hometown senior from Arkadelphia allowed just one goal and stopped six shots Tuesday as Ouachita edged LeTourneau (Texas), 2-1.

Ozmun did all he could in the Tigers’ GSC opener Sunday, denying Alabama-Huntsville nine times in 10 attempts including two penalty kicks in a 92-second span. Unfortunately for Ozmun, Ouachita managed just one shot on net as the Chargers escaped with a 1-0 victory.

The Arkadelphia native recorded 15 saves and only allowing two goals in two matches for Ouachita (4-4, 1-1).

Lady Tiger senior goalkeeper Whitley Hoppe earned GSC women’s soccer Defender of the Week.

Hoppe wins her first career award after blanking visiting Alabama-Huntsville Sunday as the Lady Tigers claimed its first GSC win of the season in double overtime, 1-0.

The junior from Houston is the first Lady Tiger to claim title since 2007 after stopping six shots in 102 minutes against a Lady Chargers squad that netted three goals at Harding just two days earlier.
