Six Stations to make up Ouachita Football Network

August 27, 2010

ARKADELPHIA- Ouachita Baptist University again will have one of the largest radio networks in NCAA Division II with six Ouachita Football Network affiliate stations whose combined signals cover most of Arkansas and parts of Oklahoma, Texas and Louisiana.

Ouachita begins its 2010 football season at 7 p.m. Thursday at Arkadelphia’s A.U. Williams Field against Texas College. The Baptist Health Tiger Countdown To Kickoff pregame show will begin at 6 p.m. along the Ouachita Football Network.

For a fourth year, the Ouachita Football Network will be produced by Noalmark Broadcasting of El Dorado. Other network partners are Bunyard Broadcasting and the Ouachita sports information department.

Network affiliates for the 2010 football season are:

•KYXK-FM, 106.9, in Arkadelphia-Gurdon
•KELD-FM, 106.5, in El Dorado-Hampton-Camden
•KZHS-AM, 590, in Hot Springs
•KVMA-AM, 630, in Magnolia
•KNAS-FM, 105.5, in Nashville
•KQOR-FM, 105.3 in Mena

Rex Nelson of Little Rock will return for his 29th season of play-by-play duties. Nelson is one of the longest-serving announcers in the country for a single school. He again will be joined in the broadcast booth by Dr. Jeff Root of Arkadelphia, who has provided analysis for more than a quarter of a century.

Chris Babb of Arkadelphia and Richard Atkinson of Little Rock also will be part of the broadcasts.

The stadium producer for the Ouachita Football Network is Patrick Thomas of El Dorado and the executive producer is Sandy Sanford of El Dorado.

“We take a lot of pride in the product we put on the air,” said Nelson, a senior vice president of The Communications Group in Little Rock. “We have a well-produced pregame show that runs for one hour and a postgame show that also runs for one hour. Our thanks go to our sponsors, our six affiliate stations, Noalmark Broadcasting and Bunyard Broadcasting for making it possible for college football fans in parts of four states to hear Ouachita games.”

Nelson and Root grew up within blocks of A.U. Williams Field. They have worked together on the football broadcasts since they were Ouachita students.

Ouachita athletic director David Sharp calls the radio network “the best in Division II. We take great pride in it. It’s just another example of us doing things in a first-class manner at Ouachita.”

The Baptist Health Tiger Countdown To Kickoff includes an extended interview with Ouachita head coach Todd Knight, an interview with the head coach of the opposing team, a report on other action across the Gulf South Conference, highlights from the previous week’s game and interviews with Ouachita assistant coaches.

The Hot Springs Halftime Report features live interviews from the stadium, a look at other events on the Ouachita campus, scores from across the country and halftime statistics.
