March 4, 2009

Will Gowdy collected three hits and Drew Wurzelbacher had two, but it wasn’t enough as the No. 18 Ouachita Baptist University baseball dropped an 8-5 decision to Tarleton State Tuesday at Gabe Nesbitt Field.

Trent Lingle took the loss by pitching four innings. He gave up six runs on nine hits with five walks and a strikeout. Sean O’Rourke and Zach Treece worked in relief.

Tarleton State jumped out to a 4-2 lead after three innings and led 6-2 heading into the final three frames.

Despite getting a run in the bottom of the seventh, Ouachita trailed 6-3 heading into the ninth, where Tarleton State took an 8-3 lead into the bottom half of the inning.

Matt Burton began the frame with a walk and moved to third on a base hit by Gowdy. With one out, Drew Maus flied out to right to plate Burton and Gowdy came in on a Derek Dibbens double. Chris Gordon ended the game with a ground out to the pitcher.

Garrett Woods pitched three innings for Tarleton State, but Scott Crook got the victory by working six innings.

Ouachita returns to action with a three-game series starting 1:00 p.m., Saturday, March 7 at No. 30 Montevallo. The Tigers will play a doubleheader Saturday and one nine-inning game Sunday.
