OBU softball splits with Arkansas Tech

RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – The Ouachita Baptist University softball team split the Gulf South Conference West Division series Sunday afternoon against Arkansas Tech, taking the opener, 1-0, before falling, 7-0, in the second game at the Chartwells Sport’s Complex.


Ouachita (13-13 overall, 2-4 GSC West) broke the scoreless tie in the top of the fourth in the first game.

Monica Davis began the frame with an infield hit, and then stole second. Kristen Rigsbee singled up the middle to plate the lone run of the game.

Rigsbee pitched a complete-game, six-hitter. She had a walk and three strikeouts to earn the win.

Casey Hammons took the loss. She worked seven innings, surrendering a run on six hits with a walk and six strikeouts.

In the second contest, Arkansas Tech (17-13, 3-3) plated three runs in the first and third innings, while getting a run in the fourth to cruise to the 7-0 win.

Sara Hanson took the loss, going six innings. She was tagged for seven runs (four earned) on 11 hits with a pair of walks and six strikeouts.

Morgan Rodgers picked up the win by going five innings. She scattered three hits with a pair of strikeouts. Lyndsey McVay worked two innings of relief.

The Lady Tigers conclude the series noon, Monday, March 16 at the Chartwells Women’s Sports Complex in a Gulf South Conference West Division matchup against Arkansas Tech.
