Every year the Ouachita Student Foundation (OSF) puts in countless hours of preparation in order to make Tiger Tunes possible and this year is no different.
“OSF is Tiger Tunes,” said senior OSF co-president Laura Grace Kirby. “We organize it, we get everything together, we do meetings and gather the money and tickets.”
One of the main roles of OSF is to raise money for student scholarships and Tiger Tunes is the number one event that makes it possible to give out those scholarships.
“Ouachita Student Foundation is ‘Students Helping Students,’” Kirby said. “That’s our motto. It’s to raise money for current students, upperclassmen, to keep students here at Ouachita and to reach the internal and external components that make up Ouachita. I think that is such a service to this Ouachita community and connecting to external Ouachita members, alumni, donors and board trustees.”
Emily Duncan, OSF’s fund-raising and finance committee co-chair, and her team have been calling businesses to ask for donations.
“Our committee is heading up the Silent Auction that goes on during the Saturday of Tunes,” Duncan said. “We are also in charge of the People’s Choice Award, where parents and friends donate money to vote for their favorite show. Together these fund-raisers have brought in almost $5000 for student scholarships.”
Homecoming weekend is a great chance for all aspects of the Ouachita community to come together and create a fun atmosphere.
“By having Tunes on homecoming weekend with the ‘Growers’ here, it helps create the Ouachita culture that we want them to be a part of, that we want them to see and grasp onto like so many of us have,” Kirby said.
OSF desires for Tiger Tunes to bring the Ouachita community back together in unity.
“We want this to be an event where people understand the Ouachita community and the family that we have here,” Kirby said. “Anything that can draw us all in and bring us back together, that’s what we want.”
OSF members, Jessica Bruchan, Tiger Tunes director this year, and all of the clubs have worked so hard to make this year’s show a success.
“We’re incredibly excited,” Kirby said. “We’ve been so impressed with the clubs and their leadership and the way they’ve handled things. More than anything we are thankful that they are willing to give up their time and their energy and their money to help OSF raise student scholarships. And while that not be their main focus, that is what we’re here to do. I’m just thankful that people are willing to do this.”
