Ouachita’s publications, the Ouachitonian yearbook and The Signal, walked away with a total of 24 awards at this year’s Arkansas College Media Association convention in Fayetteville last week.
The Ouachitonian received third place in yearbook general excellence along with 16 other awards.
Former Ouachitonian editor, Audra Hinson, received third place for yearbook art/illustration photo, first place in yearbook feature layout, first place in yearbook endsheets, first place in yearbook divider theme page, second place in yearbook closing theme page, third place for yearbook diver theme page, third place for yearbook intro theme page and second place in yearbook special features writing.
Megan Lindsey received an honorable mention in yearbook special features writing and an honorable mention in yearbook organizations writing. Becca Watts received two first place honors for the student life layout “Old and New Traditions” and “Tiger Tunes.”
Cassie Harrell received first place in yearbook organization layout for “Beta Beta.” Ariel Bealer received third place in yearbook special features writing. Richard Atkinson received second place in yearbook sports writing for “Frisbee.” Shea Higgerson received second place in yearbook academic layout for “Extending Influences to the World.”
The Signal received a total of eight awards at the convention. Leah Garavelli and Annette Whitehead received an honorable mention in newspaper front page layout for “Tunes helps students shine.” Katie Steele received an honorable mention in general column writing for “Survival tips…” Hannah Holmes received an honorable mention in newspaper meeting and speech coverage for “Martin Luther King Jr. legacy discussion.”
Callie Stephens received second place in newspaper news photo for “Beauty Queen,” as well as an honorable mention in feature photo for “Goldilocks on Trial.“ Lola Runyan received an honorable mention in newspaper sports page layout for September 2, 2009. Whitney Crews received an honorable mention in newspaper feature writing for “Children’s Home gives kids a second chance.”
