The division of music in Ouachita Baptist University’s School of Fine Arts at will host clarinetist Jesse Krebs on Friday, Oct. 10, at 7:30 p.m. in a guest recital in the Mabee Fine Arts Center’s McBeth Recital Hall. Krebs will also present a master class that same day at 1 p.m. in McBeth Recital Hall.
Krebs has served on the faculty of Truman State University in Kirksville, Miss., as an assistant professor of clarinet since 2005. He also teaches perspective jazz and 18th century counterpoint and directs the Truman Clarinet Choir.
Before Krebs started at Truman, he was the adjunct clarinet instructor and director of chamber winds at Bainbridge College in Georgia. He received a Doctor of Music in clarinet performance from Florida State University. He also earned a Master of Music from University of North Texas and a Bachelor of Music from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.
In 2002, Krebs was one of three Americans selected as a semi-finalist for the International Clarinet Association Young Artist competition and competed in Stockholm, Sweden. He has performed with the North Carolina, Greensboro, Fayetteville, Central Florida and Tallahassee Symphonies.
In 2006, Krebs presented a lecture on the clarinet soloists of the John Phillip Sousa Band at the International Clarinet Association Conference in Atlanta, Ga. He was recently invited to perform at the 2008 International Clarinet Association Conference in Kansas City and was nominated for the 2007 Truman State University Educator of the Year Award.
