Craig Hamilton presents jazz trumpet recital and lecture

ARKADELPHIA, Ark.—Dr. Craig Hamilton, Lena Goodwin Trimble Professor of Music, director of bands and music education chair at Ouachita Baptist University, will present a jazz trumpet recital and lecture on April 7 at 7:30 p.m. in Mabee Fine Arts Center’s McBeth Recital Hall on Ouachita’s campus.

Hamilton will present a biographical sketch of each artist before playing a sampling of that artist’s music. He will begin with Louis Armstrong’s “Hotter than That,” followed by Dizzy Gillespie’s “Perdido,” Clifford Brown’s “Daahoud” and Miles Davis’ “Four.” The recital will continue with Freddy Hubbard’s “Up Jumped Spring” and Chet Baker’s “Well You Needn’t,” concluding with Wynton Marsalis’ “Caravan.”

Hamilton will be assisted by the Ouachita Jazz Combo, which includes Kristin Cordell, a senior piano performance and Spanish double-major from Fort Smith, Ark.; Dr. Sim Flora, OBU professor of music; Jody Lee, a senior musical theatre major from Arlington, Texas; and Alan Thomas, a senior music major from Redfield, Ark.
