Cranor named as nominee for 2010 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team

July 21, 2010

Ouachita senior Eli Cranor has been listed as one of the 112 student-athletes nominated for the 2010 AllState AFCA Good Works Team award, the organization announced on Tuesday.

Cranor is the returning starting quarterback for the Ouachita football team and is the only in-state and Gulf South Conference nominee among the entire group of collegiate football players.

The Allstate AFCA Good Works Team is comprised of student-athletes in all levels of collegiate football competition, to honor the distinguished group for the positive influence they have in their communities. The Allstate Insurance Company and American Football Coaches Association have teamed up to present the 19th annual Good Works Team, set to be announced in late September.

The Russellville native has been involved in numerous campus service activities during his tenure at the university, including leading a team in the Angel Tree Christmas project and Tiger Serve Day events, organizing and helping install the Ouachita disc-golf course, participating in the university’s Judicial Counsel for three years, serving in the New Orleans Mission trip in 2008 and leading a Fellowship of Christian Athletes huddle at Arkadelphia High School.

Cranor started all 10 games in 2009 at quarterback, completing 164-of-291 passes for 1,941 yards and 14 touchdowns, including 269 yards rushing. The senior will be among 17 starters returning for the Ouachita football team, which started the 2009 season with a 4-0 record and No. 14 national ranking in the AFCA poll, before finishing the season at 6-4.
