Hegi records triple-double as OBU beats CBU in volleyball

Lexie Hegi recorded a triple-double as the Ouachita Baptist University volleyball team won its second straight match, defeating Christian Brothers, 3-1, Tuesday night in a Gulf South Conference West Division match at Canale Arena.

Hegi finished with 40 assists, 11 kills and 10 digs to become the first Lady Tiger to record the feat since Brettney Cheatham recorded the feat Sept. 20, 2007 against Christian Brothers.

The Lady Tigers (7-20 overall, 2-6 GSC West) opened the match by racing out to a 13-2 lead and took the first game, 25-15. In the second, both teams hit .162, but Ouachita came away with a 25-20 victory. However, the Lady Bucs (19-7, 5-3) took the third, 25-23 to cut the deficit to 2-1. Ouachita rolled in the fourth game, 25-20 to take the match.

Meredith Henry paced the Ouachita attack with 16 kills, while Libby Merritt added 14. Raichel Settle, Lauren Stuart and Kristyn Howk each had 15 digs.

Hanna Orendorff led four Christian Brothers’ players in double-digit kills with 14. Michelle Hein finished with 12, while Aubrey Pancratz and Jenna Cherry added 11. Whitney Weyhrich recorded 46 assists and 17 digs. Hein chipped in with 11 digs for a double-double and Kelsey Green finished with 11 digs.

Ouachita continues Gulf South Conference West Division action 7 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 23 against Arkansas-Monticello at the Sturgis Center.
