Amber Lee, a junior athletic training and biology double-major from Hopkinsville, Ky., received two athletic training scholarships this summer at the Southwest Athletic Trainers’ Association’s (SWATA) Annual Meeting and Clinical Symposium held in Corpus Christi, Texas.

“It was exciting to receive two scholarships. … I was not expecting to win them,” said Lee. “I had decided not to participate in band this year, so I was going to have less scholarship money. This was an answered prayer.”

She was awarded the Paul Zee Cornish Medical scholarship and the Roy Don Wilson Memorial scholarship. Lee was one of several student members of the SWATA and the National Athletic Trainers’ Association (NATA) were was awarded scholarships based on grade point average and a desire to work in the athletic training and allied healthcare fields. In addition to Lee’s grade point average and application, the selection committee reviewed recommendations from her advisor Dr. Terry DeWitt and head athletic trainer Brandon Jones.

Lee’s plans following graduation from OBU include physical therapy school. “I hope to work in a hospital or clinic with children with special needs or recovering from surgery,” she said.
