No. 1 Arkansas Tech remains undefeated against OBU Tigers

ARKADELPHIA- Despite shooting 53 percent overall, Ouachita Baptist couldn’t make up for 25 turnovers, losing to No. 1 Arkansas Tech, 74-65, in a Gulf South Conference match up at Bill Vining Arena on Thursday.

Ouachita (4-13, 0-4 GSC West) trailed 27-24 at half, but Arkansas Tech (17-0, 4-0 GSC West) outscored the Tigers 47-41 in the second half en route to remaining undefeated in the 2009-2010 season. The Tigers put together their best overall team shooting performance at 53 percent since shooting 56 percent against Dallas Christian College on Dec. 21.

Junior Scott Day led the Tigers with 17 points, four rebounds and three assists, while senior Belford Williams added 15 points, eight rebounds, three assists and two blocks. Freshman Olden Jordan added 10 points on 3-of-3 shooting. Ouachita shot 53 percent overall (21-of-39), including 43 percent on 3-pointers (7-of-16) and 76 percent on free-throw shooting (16-of-21).

Arkansas Tech’s Laithe Massey led the Wonder Boys with 17 points and five rebounds, while Brandon Friedel added 13 points. Willie Sanders added 10 points for the top-ranked team in Division II basketball. Arkansas Tech shot 46 percent overall, including 40 percent on 3-pointers and 56 percent on free-throws.

Ouachita Baptist travels to face Southern Arkansas in Magnolia, Ark. on Saturday. Tip-off is set for 7:30 for the Gulf South Conference Men’s game.
