OBU “Battle of the Ravine” blood drive set for Oct. 28-29

October 27, 2009

ARKADELPHIA, Ark.—On Oct. 28-29 Ouachita Baptist University’s students, faculty and staff will have the opportunity to take part in the American Red Cross’s blood drive Oct. 28-29 on Ouachita’s campus in the Evans Student Center Banquet Room.

The blood drive will be open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. both days.  A free “Battle of the Ravine” T-shirt will be given to each donor.

This year’s blood drive also will be held as a competition between Ouachita Baptist University and Henderson State University. Henderson State will host its own blood drive Oct. 26-27. A trophy will be awarded to the university that has the largest percentage of donors.

According to Randy Stribling, the recruitment representative for the American Red Cross, only 3 percent of people in Arkansas usually donate blood each year. “As you [can] see,” Stribling said, “the colleges and universities … are very important in helping us supply the blood required by the hospitals we service.”  In past years, Stribling said, the Red Cross has collected 50 to 60 units of blood each day at Ouachita.

Anyone interested in participating in the blood drive may contact Randy Stribling at: StriblingWR@usa.redcross.org <mailto:StriblingWR@usa.redcross.org>  or call him at: (501) 951-0454.
