OBU Baseball jumps up in both polls

After beginning the season with a 5-2 record, the Ouachita Baptist University baseball team jumped up in both the Ping!Baseball Division II Poll and in the NCAA Division II College Baseball Newspaper Poll released Tuesday.

The Tigers, who entered the season ranked No. 5 in the Ping!Baseball Poll, jumped two spots to No. 3. Tampa is No. 1, followed by Delta State. Central Missouri claims the fourth spot, while West Alabama is the third. Southern Arkansas dropped two spots to 10th to put four GSC schools ranked inside the Top 10.

In the College Baseball Newspaper Poll, Ouachita began the season ranked ninth, but jumped four spots to No. 5. Tampa (3-0) jumped a spot to claim the top spot as UC San Diego (2-0) is second and Cal State Chico (3-1) third, while Emporia State (0-0) is fourth.

West Alabama (5-1) and North Alabama (7-2) are 12th and 13th, respectively, while Delta State (2-2) is 16th. South Arkansas (5-3) dropped six spots to 19th to round out the Gulf South Conference schools.

Ouachita returns to action 2:00 p.m., Friday, Feb. 13 at Rab Rodgers Field against Truman State. The Tigers follow that single game with a three-game series starting Saturday at home against Drury. .
