OBU baseball takes tumble in rankings

After suffering back-to-back losses for the first time this season and going 2-3 on the week, the Ouachita Baptist University baseball team fell 14 spots to No. 17 in the NCAA Division II College Baseball Newspaper Poll and dropped four spots to No. 6 in the Ping!Baseball Division II Rankings Monday.

The Tigers (11-5), who were ranked No. 3 and No. 2 in their respective polls last week, is just one of three Gulf South Conference teams in the College Baseball Newspaper poll. Southern Arkansas (12-3) is third, while North Alabama (13-4) is 12th.

Lynn remains in the top spot with an 11-1 mark, while Cal. St. Stanislaus (11-2) is second. Behind the Muleriders is Mesa State (8-2) and Franklin Pierce (1-0).

In the Ping! Baseball rankings, Southern Arkansas remained No. 1, followed by Central Missouri, Lynn, Tampa and Cal. St. Stanislaus. Ouachita is sixth, West Alabama 22nd, West Florida 27th and Delta State 29th.

The Tigers resume action 1:00 p.m., Friday, Feb. 27 at Rab Rodgers Field for a pair of seven-inning games against Wisconsin-Parkside. Both games can be heard on the Ouachita Baptist University Athletic Web site at: www.obutigers.com.
