OBU men’s basketball routs Rhema

January 8, 2009

Ed Keyes finished with a double-double as the Ouachita Baptist University men’s basketball team got back into the win column with a 67-39 rout of Rhema Bible College Thursday afternoon at Bill Vining Arena.

Keyes paced the Tigers (10-3) with 16 points and 11 rebounds. Roger Eiland added 13 and Jaranimo Marks, who didn’t have a field goal until eight half minutes left in the game, chipped in with 11 points as Ouachita was 25-of-55 (45.5 percent) from the floor.

Ouachita opened the game on a 14-2 run after Eiland scored on a layup with 15:17 remaining in the first half.

Rhema tried to claw its way back, cutting the deficit to 24-8 after a layup by Sam Hook with 7:55 left, but the Tigers pushed the lead to as many as 20 right before the half as Eiland sank one of two from the free-throw line to give Ouachita a 32-12 advantage.

The Tigers extended the margin to 52-22 after a 3-pointer by Marks – his first bucket of the game – with 8:38 remaining.

Robert Sanders led the Eagles (5-10) with 10 points and 15 rebounds.

The Tigers open Gulf South Conference West Division action 6 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 10 at Delta State. The game can be heard on the Ouachita Baptist Athletic Web site at: www.obutigers.com or followed through live stats at: www.sidearmstats.com/deltastate/mbball/
