OBU men’s soccer starts season with 4-0 win

September 9, 2008

The Ouachita Baptist men’s soccer team began the season with a 4-0 victory over Williams Baptist Monday.

The Tigers (1-0) broke a scoreless tie in the first half as Andreas Krause off an assist by Victor Romero. Ouachita Baptist added to the margin by scoring three second-half goals.

Jarod Townsend found the back of the net as Alex Tonrey made a great through ball in the penalty area and slid it passed the goal keeper for the 2-0 lead. After an own goal, Tonrey put the icing on the cake with an unassisted goal.

“We started off slow from having indoor practice for a week and not being able to play on a full size field at all,” Ouachita Baptist head coach Alex Denning said. “Yet, in the second half, we played much better and things started coming together.”

Neal Ozmun finished with five saves, while Jarrett Davis added three.

The Tigers return to action 4 p.m., Friday, Sept. 12 at home against Louisiana College.
