February 16, 2009

The Ouachita Baptist University softball team split the final two games Sunday at the Arkansas-Monticello Super 8 Classic as the Lady Tigers rallied for a 4-3 victory over Southern Indiana in eight innings, but fell to Missouri Southern State, 6-2, in the finale.
Against Southern Indiana, Ouachita (8-4) trailed 3-1 going into the bottom of the seventh.

With one out in the inning, Jana Deen singled to right-center and Monica Davis, who went 3-for-4, followed with an infield single. Randi Wilson reached on a dropped fly by the third baseman to load the bases. Kristin Rigsbee followed and reached on a fielder’s choice as Deen was out at home for the second out. Taylor Austin, who was 2-for-4, ripped a single to center to score Davis and Wilson, tying the game at 3.

In the eighth, Korrie Cook was placed at second and Aspen Grams reached on a throwing error, which allowed Cook to score the winning run.

Sara Hanson took the win, going all eight innings. She surrendered three runs (two earned) on eight hits with four walks and four strikeouts.

Kambria Current pitched seven innings for Southern Indiana. She gave up three runs (all unearned) and had three strikeouts. Dawn McClellan took the loss.

Ouachita, which saw its five-game winning streak snapped in a loss to Missouri Southern State, returns to action 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 18 at Arkansas-Pine Bluff.
