OBU Women’s Soccer recognized with NSCAA Team Academic Award; third-highest GPA in the nation

November 22, 2010

ARKADELPHIA- The Ouachita Baptist Women’s Soccer Team has been recognized as one of the premier academic teams in the country, earning a 2009-10 NSCAA Women’s Team Academic Award, after recording the third-highest team grade point average (GPA) in the country, regardless of classification, officials announced on Thursday.

The Lady Tigers earned a 3.69 GPA for the 2009-10 season, behind only Central Michigan University (3.76) and Tiffin University (3.73).

“I am very proud of my girls for earning this award two years in a row now,” Ouachita Head Coach Alex Denning said. “Last year, the team’s Grade Point Average was the ninth highest in the nation and now this year as we grow on the field and become a very strong team we also had great improvement in the classroom now having the 3rd highest GPA in the nation.”

Ouachita finished the 2010 season at 8-8-2 overall, with a 6-4 record at home. Junior Beth Wendl was honored earlier this season with a selection to the ESPN CoSida Academic All-District Team.

“OBU is a great school academically which makes this achievement even sweeter, Denning said. “I am very grateful to have such a great group on my team that consistently work hard to succeed in everything they do. I know that the girls are very grateful for the professors at OBU that help challenge them and work with them to be successful off of the field and in the future.”
