OBU Women’s Soccer out-duels Central Baptist in second half for 3-0 victory

October 21, 2010

ARKADELPHIA- With steady rainfall throughout, even the weather couldn’t find a way to rain on Ouachita’s parade, as the Lady Tigers scored three second half goals to defeat Central Baptist, 3-0, in a non-conference women’s soccer matchup in Arkadelphia on Tuesday.

Ouachita (7-7-2) played to a 0-0 halftime score with Central Baptist, but the Lady Tigers scored a pair of goals in the opening 30 minutes of the second half, then finished everything off in the final minutes.

The Lady Tigers struck first and last, as freshman Morgan Pitchford was successful on a penalty kick at 57:09 to put Ouachita up 1-0.

Ouachita freshman Jessica Allen scored her eighth goal of the season with a header, off an assist from sophomore Mary Whisenhunt in the 67th minute, good enough for a 2-0 lead. The final scoring play of the match came from junior Beth Wendl’s 10th goal of 2010, as junior teammate Miranda Lytle provided the assist on a slow roller to the left corner of the net for Wendl at 87:18.

Ouachita senior keeper Whitley Hoppe and freshman Sarah Boyles each played 45 minutes each, while neither was challenged with a shot on goal throughout the match.

The Lady Tigers return to the field on Oct. 29 in Searcy against Harding in a Gulf South Conference match at 5 p.m.
