OBU’s Merritt tabbed GSC West Division player of the week

September 23, 2008

Ouachita Baptist’s Libby Merritt became the first OBU freshman since Breanne Garrett to garner Gulf South Conference weekly honors as she was selected Tuesday the West Division Player of the Week.

The middle blocker from Conway, Ark., had a very strong week in helping Ouachita Baptist pick up its first win of the season.

During a two-game stretch, Merritt had 21 kills on just 48 attempts. In a 3-0 win over East Division rival UAH, she hit .542, while posting 14 kills to lead the Lady Tigers.

Henderson State’s Bethany Wright earned GSC West Division Defensive Player of the Week honors.
