Ouachita places five student-athletes on 2010 GSC Spring All-Academic Team; 33 on GSC Honor Roll

ARKADELPHIA- Ouachita Baptist earned five selections on the 2010 Gulf South Conference Spring All-Academic Team, while also placing 33 student-athletes on the 2010 GSC Spring Academic Honor Roll, officials announced on Wednesday.

Among the selections on the All-Academic Team were: sophomore Brock Green (baseball), senior Haley Chambers (softball), junior Kristen Rigsbee (softball), junior Till Heilshorn (men’s tennis) and junior Jan Plewinski (men’s tennis).

Ouachita Baptist also earned 33 selections to the 2010 GSC Spring Academic Honor Roll. Among the 10 selections for baseball were: senior Luke Hardcastle (Pre-Pharmacy, 3.26), senior Drew Baker (Biology, 3.43), junior Cass Via (Kinesiology, 3.78), junior Kyle Zimmerman (Business, 3.72), junior Sam McGill (Psychology, 3.61), junior Nick Holtgrieve (Athletic Training, 3.22), sophomore Beau Martin (History, 3.58 GPA), sophomore Brock Green (Business, 3.4), freshman Landon Flax (Business Administration/Marketing, 3.74) and freshman Duncan Collins (Political Science, 4.0).

For men’s golf, the Tigers placed three-student athletes in senior Dax Demaree (Biology, 3.94), senior Rob Greer (Business, 3.93) and freshman Bryce Skinner (Accounting, 3.0).

After setting an all-time program best wins mark in 2010 with a 36-24 record, the Ouachita softball team earned 10 selections to the Academic Honor Roll in senior Haley Chambers (Kinesiology, 3.23), senior Korrine Cook (Speech Communications, 3.73), junior Sarah Bell (Biology, 3.41), junior Kelli Beth Bratton (Accounting, 3.39), junior Sara Hanson (Dietetics/Nutrition, 3.41), junior Kristen Rigsbee (Accounting, 4.0), sophomore Taylor Austin (Accounting, 3.88), sophomore Jana Deen (Accounting, 3.97) and sophomore Alexis Johns (Mass Communications, 3.75).

The No. 4 Ouachita men’s tennis team placed three student-athletes in junior Jan Plewinski (Business, 3.15), junior Till Heilshorn (Kinesiology, 3.35) and freshman Tobias Kuhlmann (Kinesiology, 3.03). The Tigers finished fourth in the nation after losing to eventual national champion Barry in the South Region No. 2 final.

For the women’s tennis team, the Lady Tigers earned seven selections, including senior Mariana Divardin (Business, 3.94), senior Katie Potts (Dietetics, 3.41), senior Thoko Zulu (Business, 3.66), junior Megan Ruggles (Mass Communications, 3.34), junior Annie Gerber (Music, 3.18), freshman Lilia Sokolova (Business, 3.42) and freshman Samantha Street (Accounting, 3.94).
