September 26, 2013

Ouachita Career Services will host a resume writing workshop in the Ouachita Commons Alumni Room on Wednesday, Oct. 2, at 12:05 p.m,

Lauren Land, director of career services, will lead the workshop and give an overview of ways to make resumes as “competitive and strategic as possible.” Land added, “The earlier you begin crafting your resume, the easier the process will be when you are ready to send these to potential employers.”

Students of all majors are welcome to the workshop. Resumes are useful for future job applications, graduate school and networking. Resumes can be easily tailored to a variety of areas and specialties.

“Creating an effective resume is such an important skill to master,” said Brooks Burleson, a senior business administration/finance major from Camden, Ark.

“In a highly competitive job market, it is crucial for students to make their resume stand out among the rest,” said Kristen Barnard, a senior mass communications major from Hot Springs, Ark. Barnard attended the resume workshop last year and also added, “The workshop shows students different examples, walks them through what should and shouldn’t go on a resume and how to make an effective, ‘sticky’ resume.”

“Your resume is a good snapshot of who you are,” said Garet West, a senior mass communications major from Bolivar, Mo.

On Nov. 20, Career Services will host a resume workshop that specifically focuses on an online format. It will be led by Tiffany Eurich, instructor of communications, She will walk students through the steps to building a web site and give examples and tips. The workshop will be held at 12 noon in the Ouachita Commons Alumni Room.
