January 26, 2009

A’Laeshia Adams scored a career-high 25 points, including hitting a long-range 3-pointer at the buzzer to lift the Ouachita Baptist University women’s basketball team to an 84-69 victory over Southern Arkansas Saturday afternoon in a Gulf South Conference West Division game at Bill Vining Arena.

Adams, who had 11 points at the break, finished the game by going 9-of-13 from the field and 5-of-7 from the charity stripe. Angela Colliver added 15 points, while Haley Griffin and Domino Miller recorded 10 as the Lady Tigers (12-5 overall, 2-3 GSC West) were 31-of-61 (51 percent) shooting and 16-of-21 76 percent) from the free-throw line.

Ouachita opened the contest on a 17-9 run after Maranda Parker drained a 3-pointer with 11:19 remaining in the first half. Southern Arkansas kept the game close, cutting the margin to 22-19 after an Ellana White jumper with 6:29 left.

The Lady Tigers closed the first half by out-scoring the Lady Muleriders, 13-8, to take a 35-27 halftime lead. Ouachita was 13-of-31 (42 percent) from the floor, while Southern Arkansas was 10-of-24 (42 percent) shooting.

Ouachita began the second half on a 9-0 run, capped by a Tamara Robinson tip-in with 18:10 left. Southern Arkansas cut the deficit to 75-64 after a pair of free throws by Shardae Thompson, but that was as close at the Lady Muleriders would get.

Goldie White paced Southern Arkansas (7-11, 1-4) with 20 points, while Kmaria Hobbs chipped with a double-double, 17 points and 11 boards. Thompson added 10 points as the Lady Muleriders were 23-of-60 (38 percent) from the floor and 18-of-23 (78 percent) from the charity stripe.
