This semester, Homecoming week is approaching faster than last year’s; a week faster. This is leaving most social clubs with three weeks of practice compared to last year’s four weeks.
Although late nights are part of the normal college lifestyle, the weeks before Homecoming push the envelope for students’ schedules. But one has to wonder how all that will fare this year with clubs and other organizations having only three weeks to practice, instead of the normal five weeks.
Both Chi Delta director Heather Quillman, a junior business marketing and management major, and Tri Chi director Bekah Caraway, a senior mass communications major, were sure the quality of their shows, at least, would not suffer.
“We will practice just as hard as we did last year, and we are confident the time constraint will not affect our show,” said Quillman. “We are working around the time crunch and still incorporating all of our fun ideas.”
Due to the shorter practice time, Caraway, Tri Chi knows her club will just have to be smart about managing time.
“All of the themes are great this year, and there are a lot of talented and creative people directing,” Caraway said. “Everyone will just have to maximize the use of their time. We are going to be farmers this year. It’s not a typical Tri Chi theme, but I think it will be a lot of fun. I hope so, at least.”
The rush of preparation has not quenched the excitement that Quillman has for Chi Delta’s show.
“Chi Delta’s show this year is going to be [imaginative], creative and full of fun,” Quillman said. “We are so excited for our show … and cannot wait for everyone to see it.”
Tiger Tunes will show Thursday, Oct. 11 through Saturday, Oct.13. It is a major fundraiser for the Ouachita Student Foundation.
Nine clubs participating: Tri Chi will perform as farmers, Chi Delta, crayons; EEE, spies; Kappa Chi, golfers; Beta Beta, sanitation management workers; Eta Alpha Omega, oompa loompas and Rho Sigma as chefs, as well as Tiger Blast, Christian Ministries as superheroes and International club as American tourists in Paris.
