Wendl named GSC Player of the Week

ARKADELPHIA- To say that junior Beth Wendl had a good week, would largely be an understatement at best. The Ouachita Baptist forward painted a masterpiece of a week with five goals and seven assists in three matches to earn Gulf South Conference Player of the Week, officials announced on Tuesday.

Even more important in the scheme of things, Wendl led the Lady Tigers (3-2) to a 3-0 record on the week. Ouachita started with a 4-1 victory over Hendrix College on Sept. 8, followed by an 8-0 win over LeTourneau (Sept. 11). The Lady Tigers then traveled to Dallas, Texas to defeat Texas A&M-International, 4-1, to finish off the week.

Against Hendrix, the Plano, Texas native scored in the 48th minute to give Ouachita a 4-0 advantage, while also assisting on three goals. In the 8-0 victory over LeTourneau, Wendl turned the tables, scoring three goals in the first half alone. The junior opened the scoring in the 24th minute, followed by another goal to put Ouachita up 3-0 in the 32nd minute. The final goal came in just short of halftime, coming off of a penalty kick at 42:56 for a 5-0 advantage. Just for good measure, she also added an assist on the fourth goal of the match.

In the final match of the week, Wendl added a goal and three assists to cap off what should prove to be one of the stronger individual performances of the entire season. On the season, Wendl has collected 17 points on five goals and seven assists.

Ouachita Baptist returns to the field on Sept. 19 to face North Alabama in Arkadelphia at 1 p.m.
