Women’s tennis sets sights high

February 12, 2009

Even though this year is being tabbed a rebuilding year by the Lady Tigers tennis team, they are prepared to go out and compete.

“This year we expect to have a tough season, but we are confident of obtaining positive results,” said junior Tavu Fa.

The Lady Tigers are coming off a rough season of only two wins from last year but are putting the past behind them. The team is young, so there is room for much improvement.

Natalia Drada will be asked for senior leadership all year.

“Natalia Drada is who we think is the anchor of our team,” said sophomore Mariana Divardin. “She is the one with the most experience and is our only senior this year.”

Challenges are already mounting up for the team, but they feel they are prepared, to rise up to them. “We are all mentally prepared but we had some unexpected injuries that may affect our teams performance overall,” Fa said. “Especially since one of our players, Mariana, is not going to be able to play the first few matches scheduled, which leaves us one player short.”

Even with these injuries, the Lady Tigers know what they are capable of doing if they put their minds to it.

“I feel like the team has the potential to do very well in conference this year,” said junior Katie Potts. “It will be a struggle with the injuries on the team, but I still feel we will hold our own in conference and make it to the conference tournament.”

The Lady Tigers open their season at home Feb. 13 at 11 a.m. against Christian Brothers.
