Young named Nation Player of the Week

September 25, 2009

Quachita senior wide receiver Jeremy Young continues to add accolades to his career, as the San Diego, Calif. native was named as the D2football.com national player of the week on Wednesday by NCAA officials.

Young set a single game school record with 261 yards receiving in the 24-14 victory over No. 16 Valdosta State, including touchdown catches of 60 and 56 yards. Ouachita (3-0) led 17-14, when junior quarterback Eli Cranor connected with Young on a 60 yard score to give the Tigers a 24-14 advantage midway through the fourth quarter.

Earlier this week, Young was named as the Gulf South Conference Offensive Player of the Week, a season after leading the GSC in All-Purpose yards in 2008.

The victory against two-time national champion Valdosta State vaulted Ouachita into the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) top-25 poll. The Tigers debut at No. 21, as Ouachita hosts No. 9 Delta State on Saturday at A.U. Williams Field. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
