Commons, Chick-fil-a offer students more nutritious choices

With an average of 1,900 entries daily into the Commons, 1,000 entries at Chick-fil-a and a cultural obsession over a healthy diet, the food service staff is working hard to adapt and create the best possible dining environment for students.

As society continues to obsess over weight loss, healthy food and a balanced diet, Sodexo general manger Jon Fitzgerald and executive chef Donna Young are making changes in order to facilitate the needs of students. (more…)

Counseling Services expands through Web site

Counseling Services now has a Web site. It can be found by going to Tigernet and clicking the counseling services link, located on the right-hand side in the “In Links” section. The Web site contains links that help aid students in determining their major or career as well as articles on loneliness, worry/anxiety, depression and stress. There is also a link to schedule counseling appointments. (more…)

Seven students selected for Intercollegiate Band

Each year, students are selected from colleges and universities across the state to play in the Arkansas Intercollegiate Band (AIB.)

Seven Ouachita students will participate this year, including Kelsey Bates, a horn player and music education major; Deborah Caldwell, a trumpet player and instrumental music education major; Paul Hill, a percussion player and instrumental music education major; Leah Jones, a horn player and music education major; Andrew McCraw, a trombone player and instrumental music education major; Elyse Senteney, a flute player and music education major; and Ruthie Stoner, a clarinet player and clarinet performance major. Signal to utilize social media world, adapt to change

Facebook, Twitter and other forms of social media mean different things to different people. For some they are a way to keep in touch with old friends and strengthen ties with new ones. For others they are excuses to put off that pile of homework that has been staring at them for the past week. But for Ouachita, they are becoming useful tools to communicate with the university community and inform them about happenings on campus. (more…)

Lady Tigers defeat Southern Arkansas in overtime

The age-old reference to the importance of free-throw shooting came to life when sophomore A’Laeshia Adams hit a pair of free-throws with .4 seconds left in regulation, sending the game into overtime, as the Lady Tigers held on for the road victory over Southern Arkansas, 80-78, for their second Gulf South Conference victory of the season  in Magnolia on Jan. 23.

Tigers fall short at Southern Arkansas

In a game with 13 different lead changes, it was Southern Arkansas who held on late, coming away with a 66-62 victory over Ouachita in a Gulf South Conference match up in Magnolia on Jan. 23.

Ouachita (4-14, 0-5 GSC West) never lead by more than three in the closely contested match up with Southern Arkansas (8-10, 3-2 GSC West) and trailed 24-22 at half. (more…)

Spring intramurals create competition, attract supportive crowds to gym

Another exciting semester in spring intramurals is gearing up at Ouachita, and Rec Sports Director Alan Greenwood is especially looking forward to the upcoming basketball season.

“There isn’t a better atmosphere as far as rec sports is concerned as basketball season,” Greenwood said. “The closed-in courts create crowd noise and great competition for students throughout the week.” (more…)

Ouachita places 54 student-athletes on GSC Fall Academic Honor Roll

Ouachita placed five student-athletes on the Gulf South Conference Fall All-Academic Team, conference officials announced on Friday.

Ouachita also placed 54 student-athletes on the GSC Fall Academic Honor Roll Team, the second highest number of students among conference schools. (more…)
