Tigers fall short at Southern Arkansas

In a game with 13 different lead changes, it was Southern Arkansas who held on late, coming away with a 66-62 victory over Ouachita in a Gulf South Conference match up in Magnolia on Jan. 23.

Ouachita (4-14, 0-5 GSC West) never lead by more than three in the closely contested match up with Southern Arkansas (8-10, 3-2 GSC West) and trailed 24-22 at half.

The Muleriders outscored the Tigers 42-40 in the second half.

Both teams scored nearly double the amount of points in the second half, led by a 73 percent shooting effort from Southern Arkansas.

Freshman Olden Jordan led the Tigers with 16 points on 6-of-10 shooting, while senior Belford Williams added 12 points, five rebounds and two steals. Freshman Julian LaDay scored 10 points and added a game-high six steals.

Ouachita shot 51 percent overall (23-of-45), including 29 percent on 3-pointers (5-of-17) and 57 percent on free-throw shooting (11-of-19).

Muleriders Damion Atkins and Channin Harden each scored 16 points to lead Southern Arkansas, while Sanchez Dade added 13 points.

Southern Arkansas shot 57 percent overall, including 11 percent on 3-pointers and 79 percent on free-throw shooting.

Ouachita returns home to face Henderson in the first Battle of the Ravine series match up of 2010. The game will tip-off at 8 p.m.
