ARKADELPHIA- After a weekend sweep at the Christian Brothers Tournament, Ouachita Baptist remained unbeaten in the 2010 season with a non-conference sweep over Philander Smith College and Lyon College on Monday at the Sturgis Physical Education Center in
Arkadelphia.
Ouachita (6-0) lost just one set on the night, defeating Philander Smith, 25-10, 25-13, 25-14 in the first matchup. It was an overall balanced match for the Lady Tigers, as sophomore Megan Askew led in kills with nine, followed by a 15-assists, 11-dig performance from junior Lexie Hegi. Senior Lauren Stuart added 15 assists and five digs, while sophomore Jillian Jeffcoat and freshman Kelsi Bodine each recorded 10 digs for Ouachita.
In the night cap, Ouachita was challenged in the final two sets, but came away with a 25-14, 25-16, 13-25, 25-15 victory over Lyon College to move to 6-0 on the season.
Against Lyon, sophomore Libby Merritt led the way with 12 kills, while senior Kaitlyn Mitcham added 10 kills and 11 digs. Reigning GSC Freshman of the Year Allison Frizzell led Ouachita with 30 digs, while junior Kristyn Howk added 23. Hegi led the Lady Tigers with 22 assists, while Stuart added 12.
Ouachita returns to action on Friday, Sept. 10 in the Hendrix College Tournament in Conway. The Lady Tigers begin play on Friday against Williams Baptist at 7 p.m. Ouachita concludes action on Saturday against Huntington at 10 a.m. followed by Hendrix College at 2 p.m.
