Lady Tigers Clinch Third Seed in GAC Tournament with Arkansas-Monticello Victory

February 28, 2012

After downing the Cotton Blossoms of the University of Arkansas-Monticello (11-15, 7-9 GAC), the Ouachita Lady Tigers (17-9, 10-6 GAC) have officially locked up third place in the Great American Conference. The Lady Tigers posted an impressive offensive performance in the 92-67 victory, including six players who finished with double figures.

Ouachita’s seniors played their last home game of their careers on Saturday, and they performed admirably. Four of the five seniors for the Lady Tigers finished in double figures. A’Laeshia Adams finished with 13 points in the game, Tamara Robinson finished with 12, Beulah Osueke finished with 11 and Domino Miller finished with 10. The Lady Tigers other senior, Sarah Pugh, recorded seven points. Freshman Kendra Coyle led the team in scoring, recording 18 points on a 6 of 8 performance from the floor. Robinson had a stellar game, grabbing a game-high 16 rebounds in the game, while Miller and Coyle both added a team-high five assists.

Arkansas-Monticello was led by Chelsea Johnson, who finished with 20 points and five rebounds. Channon Haywood recorded 15 points for the Cotton Blossoms, while Catherine Puckett added 13. Haywood also recorded a team-high nine rebounds. Alex Hart had a game high six assists for UAM, while four players finished with two steals.

The Lady Tigers shot 47.8 percent from the floor while holding the Cotton Blossoms to just 36.9 percent in the game.

The Lady Tigers will begin post-season play on Friday, where they will, ironically enough, face off against the No. 6 seed Cotton Blossoms again. Tip-off is scheduled for 12 p.m. in Bartlesville, Oklahoma.
