Ouachita Football Climbs National Rankings

September 18, 2012

WACO, Tex.- Following their bye week, the Ouachita Tigers continued to climb the AFCA Division II Coaches Poll, receiving their highest ever national ranking. The Tigers came in at No. 13 in the country this week, marking not only their highest ranking, but the highest ranking of any Great American Conference team in its short history.

Ouachita enters the week looking ahead to their game on Saturday, when they will take on Arkansas Tech to open Great American Conference play. The Tigers enter the game still holding the title of the number one defense in the nation. So far this year, they have held their opponents to just 110 yards of total offense. Indiana (Pa.) University sits behind the Tigers in total defense, allowing 150 yards per game.

The Tigers are not the only GAC team in the polls this week, as cross-town rival Henderson State jumped in at No. 24. This marks the first week that two GAC teams have ever been ranked in the same week.

Ouachita’s previous highest ranking came in 2009, when they jumped all the way to No. 14.
