Ouachita Baptist University women’s head basketball coach Garry Crowder became Saturday the all-time winningest women’s basketball coach as the Lady Tigers cruised past Ecclesia, 94-61, at Bill Vining Arena.
Crowder now owns the record with 214 career OBU women’s basketball victories, surpassing Carolyn Moffat’s mark of 213.
The Lady Tigers (15-6) had four players reach double figures in scoring. Maranda Parker led Ouachita with 14 points on 6-of-9 shooting. Tamara Robinson and Angelia Colliver each recorded 13 points, while Colliver pulling down a game-high 10 rebounds for a double-double. Beulah Osueke added 10 points on 3-of-4 shooting as the Lady Tigers were 35-of-75 (47 percent) from the floor and 16-of-22 (73 percent) from the free-throw line.
Ouachita, which scored 28 points in the paint in the first half, raced out to a 19-8 advantage after a layup by Tamara Robinson with 13:15 remaining in the opening half. The lead grew to 29-13 after a pair of free throws by Robinson with 8:29 left.
The Royals (11-14) cut the deficit to 29-17 after a layup by Lucinda Sylvain with 7:47 remaining, but the Lady Tigers, who had 23 bench points to just three for Ecclesia in the first half, ended the half on an 18-11 run to grab a 47-28 halftime lead.
Ouachita put the game away early in the second half to roll to its 15th win of the season.
Tiffany McKenzie led Ecclesia with 14 points, while Samantha Kimmons and Ashton Abshier each had 11.
The Lady Tigers return to Gulf South Conference West Division play, 5:00 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 12 in Memphis, Tenn., against Christian Brothers. The game can be heard on the Ouachita Baptist University Athletic Web site at: www.obutigers.com.
