Thirteen of the disaster relief team members worked through the Mid Chambers Christian Caring Center in Anahuac, Texas during fall break. They helped to repair homes in Smith Point Texas, an area hit hard by Hurricane Ike. The team worked in five homes, but did extensive work in three. Judy Duvall, accompanied the team to Texas.

“I was really proud of our team,” she said. “They had great attitudes and served cheerfully. Over and over, the residents asked, why would you do this for us? We then had the opportunity to share our faith in Christ and the reason we served. They were extremely grateful and overwhelmed that a group of young people would come in and do this kind of work for them.”
The team gave each homeowner a Bible that each member had signed, notes of encouragement from all of the team members; they also prayed with them before they left.
“One of the ladies said with tears in her eyes that she would treasure her Bible and it was what she needed,” Duvall said. “All of us left with a new sense of gratefulness for how fortunate we are to have clean water, shelter and food for our daily living and with an awareness of the many needs that people have in areas hit by the hurricane.”
