Tigers trying to live up to expectations

March 15, 2009

Tiger baseball is off to a good start considering the expectations that have been thrown at team memebers after last year’s incredible run to the College World Series. The team is leaning heavily on its strong senior leadership.

“I think that all of the seniors on the team have done a good job leading the team,” senior Blake Lockwood said. “Some of us lead by example and some of us do a good job of leading vocally, and I think that you need both types of leaders to be successful.”

This type of attitude has led to the Tigers being currently ranked 30th in Division II ranking. This ranking might look satisfying to many onlookers, but for the players they know there is much room for improvement.

“I think everybody on the team wants to get back to the World Series,” senior Patrick Lemmond said. “With that in mind I think our expectations are anything that will help us get there, like winning our conference and a regional. We expect nothing less than going back, so anything else will be a disappointment.”

The Tigers currently wrapped up a road trip to Alabama, with two wins this last weekend over Montevallo.

The Tigers believe the two road wins helped to push them into the right direction heading into a three game home stand against East Central March 10.

The main goal of the Tigers is to keep improving. They will not be satisfied until they feel as though they are playing to their full potential.

“I think that we will continue to get better as a team, and hopefully we will be playing our best at the end of the year,” Lockwood said.

The Tigers season will continue next week with games against Delta State and Harding.
