Ouachita Baptist University’s instrumental chamber ensembles will present a free concert on April 14 at 7:30 p.m. in Mabee Fine Arts Center’s McBeth Recital Hall on Ouachita’s campus. The ensembles performing will include the trumpet ensemble, trombone ensemble, clarinet choir, percussion ensembles, flute choir and saxophone quartet.
The trumpet ensemble will open the concert with Joel Blahnik’s “Slava Fanfare” and Ronald C. Dishinger’s “Americana Suite.” The trombone ensemble will follow with Robert Elkjer’s arrangement of Maurice Ravel’s “Pavane (bossa nova style).” The clarinet choir will then perform Daniel Dorff’s arrangement of Gioacchino Rossini’s “Overture to The Barber of Seville.”
The percussion ensembles will continue the concert with Johannes Brahms’ “Piano Quintet in F minor, op.34: Scherzo” and Patrick Long’s “Strange Loops.” The flute choir will then perform J.S. Bach’s “Air” from his “Orchestral Suite in D Major.” The saxophone quartet will conclude the concert with Warren Baker’s “The Wizard of Oz: Suite for Saxophone Quartet and Narrator.”
The trumpet ensemble, under the direction of Dr. Craig Hamilton, includes Jon Cole, Matt Gudino, Craig Denison, Chris Sumner and Channing Mulino.
The trombone ensemble, under the direction of Josh Bynum, includes Vince DiCarlo, Michael Proctor, Russell Shaw, Dr. Kevin Cornelius, Andrew McCraw, Ashley McCarty, Travis Blanton (bass trombone) and Cameron Jones (bass trombone).
The clarinet choir, under the direction of Heather Bynum, includes Daniel Laney, Brooke Baker, Sarah Greeson, C.E. Fifer and Brian Matney (bass clarinet).
The percussion ensemble performing the Brahms piece includes Brooke Baker, Steven Harvell, Mike Kizzar and Lacey Lewis. The percussion ensemble performing Long’s piece includes Kate Hughes, Josh Lee, Lauren Lewis and Alan Thomas. Both ensembles are under the direction of Lee Parham.
The saxophone quartet, under the direction of Dr. Caroline Taylor, includes Alissa Hill (soprano), Jeremy Garrett (alto), Josh Ashburn (tenor) and Brian Matney (baritone). Dr. George Keck will act as narrator.
