September 10, 2009

Ouachita Baptist University’s Director of Athletics David Sharp and Head Women’s Basketball Coach Garry Crowder announced Sept. 9 the release of the upcoming 2009-2010 women’s basketball schedule.

Non-conference games on the schedule will include Tougaloo, Philander-Smith, Incarnate Word, Lambuth, St. Mary’s, Newman University, Ecclesia, Southwest Baptist and Southeastern Oklahoma State.

The 2009-2010 season will kick off with an exhibition game against Stephen F. Austin on Nov. 6, followed by the regular season opener with Tougaloo on Nov. 15 at Henderson State University in Arkadelphia.

On Jan. 9, Ouachita will face Delta State at home to open Gulf South Conference play, in a re-match of the Division II South Region Championship Game. The Cinderella story ended for the Lady Tigers in a 50-49 loss to Delta State to end a historic run for the women’s basketball program. Ouachita finished the 2008-2009 season  with a 23-9 record to break  the school record for overall victories, while reaching the NCAA Sweet 16 in the historic run.

Among the returners, include the top three scorers, including five of the top six leaders in points scored. The Lady Tigers used a young roster last season to post a 12-1 record at Bill Vining Arena, while also going 6-1 in neutral site games.

The Battle of the Ravine series will take place on Jan. 28 against Henderson State at home, before ending the GSC schedule against Harding on Feb. 27. Ouachita will host 13 games at home, while traveling for 11 games on the schedule.

The Gulf South Conference Tournament will again take place in Southhaven, Miss., as the Lady Tigers will look for a strong showing in hopes to return to the South Regional Tournament on Mar. 12.
