Lady Tigers defeat Philander Smith

The Ouachita women’s basketball team got back on track Monday with a 100-70 victory over Philander Smith College in the non-conference home opener at Bill Vining Arena in Arkadelphia.

Ouachita (1-1) led 44-33 at half, and never looked back in the second half, finishing the game with solid shooting from all over the court. 

The Lady Tigers were led by sophomore A’Laeshia Adams with 24 points and five rebounds, while sophomore Domino Miller added 19 points, including a 5-for-6 effort from three-point range. 

Junior Gabby Coleman added 12 points and freshman Breana Dillard recorded nine points and eight rebounds from off the bench.

Philander Smith (3-1) shot just 26.5 percent, as Porshe Byrd led the Lady Panthers with 20 points and nine rebounds. 

Shirley Robinson and Miesha Williams added 18 and 17 points, respectively.

Ouachita shot 47 percent (35-73) from the field, including 56 percent (14-25) from three-point and 76 percent (16-21) from the free-throw line. 

Ouachita rebounded Philander Smith, 46-39, while Philander Smith had the better turnover ratio, 11-9.

The Lady Tigers travel to Huntsville, Ala. on Nov. 19 to take on Alabama-Huntsville in a non-conference game at 5:30 p.m.
