Finals are just around the corner and Christmas is coming up fast. Whether in Evans Student Center, the Commons, or even dorm hallways, it is hard not to notice the garlands, wreaths, ornaments and window paintings. Evenings for the last two weeks of the semester are filled with a variety of events and the Campus Activity Board is keeping up by throwing its annual Christmas party.
Held in Evans Student Center, the CAB Christmas party is scheduled for Monday, Dec. 7 at 6:30 p.m.
“It’s something that Campus Activities puts on every year,” said junior Madison O’Connor, CAB President. “This year it’s going to be bigger and better.”
The party includes a wide assortment of activities catered to all.
“We’re going to have a tacky sweater contest judged by Dr. Horne,” O’Connor said. “We’ll have crafts, a cakewalk, pictures with Santa, hot chocolate, cider, gingerbread house decorating, music and games.”
While the expected attendees are students, CAB opens their Christmas party to the faculty, staff and their families as well, and all for free.
Junior Lori Hilburn, part of the CAB special events team, has helped plan the party for the first time and has a positive outlook on the event.
“We are just going to have a really good time if there are 10 people or ten thousand people,” Hilburn said. “We hope there are a lot of people coming and we are expecting a lot of people to come.”
According to O’Connor, Evans Student Center will be ornamented with all the bells and tinsel of Christmas.
“Social clubs and freshmen girls and guys dorms have painted windows in the student center,” O’Connor said. “They’ll be judged by faculty. The student center gets all decked out in winter wonderland decorations too.”
While the focus of the CAB Christmas party is primarily for fun, it serves several other purposes as well.
“It’s a really fun time for all of campus to come together at Christmas and just be crazy,” O’Connor said. “It’s a way to bring together the student body right before finals to just relax and have a good time.”
