UAM controls rebounding to defeat Tigers

ARKADELPHIA- Arkansas-Monticello out rebounded Ouachita, 41-19, en route to a 60-48 victory over the Tigers in a Gulf South Conference match up at Bill Vining Arena in Arkadelphia on Saturday.

Ouachita (4-12) was down 24-16 at half, before Arkansas-Monticello (7-6) outscored the Tigers 36-32 in the second half. Freshman Emmanuel Engulu led Ouachita with nine points, while also contributing four rebounds. Teammates Olden Jordan, Belford Williams and Jeremy Banks each added seven points.

The Tigers shot 37 percent overall (17-of-45), including 15 percent on 3-pointers (3-of-20) and 68 percent from the free-throw line (11-of-16). Ouachita also collected eight steals.

Arkansas-Monticello’s Jarrell Turner led all scorers with 26 points on 13-of-17 shooting, including 12 rebounds. Derek Easter added 14 points and 12 rebounds for the Boll Weevils. Arkansas-Monticello shot 47 percent overall, including 16 percent on 3-pointers and 62 percent on free-throw shooting.

Ouachita Baptist will return to Bill Vining Arena on Thursday, Jan. 21 to face No. 2 Arkansas Tech at 8 p.m.
